Nightjars by David Allen Sullivan is finally available! Sullivan's sprawling narrative poem was selected as the winner of Golden Walkman's 2018 (Audio)Chapbook Contest judged by Rebecca Hart Olander. The audiobook is an excerpt from a longer narrative poem that addresses the war in Iraq and the impact it has had (and continues to have) on anyone involved. It is a tapestry of interwoven storylines that spans from the well-known (the hubris of Saddam Hussein) to the personal (an Iraqi interpreter nicknamed "Ink) and somehow weaves humanity throughout it all. Having the audiobook recorded in the voices of the author and second reader Aisha Charves provides an authentic interpretation of Sullivan's words while the sound and music editing by Golden Walkman helps bring the rich landscape of the poem to life. Nightjars is currently available for sale at a reduced price of $5 until the end of June. Take a listen!
Happy New Year! While 2020 was nothing to celebrate, it was the inauguration of our Themed Issues--which bore fantastic fruit. Just listen to the quality of work our guest editors curated in this playlist!
This year should be no different with a slate of absolutely amazing guest editors and themes to help inspire some new writing or have you dust off a classic piece you haven't been able to find a home for yet. Here's the full rundown for 2021...
2020 is the first year Golden Walkman opened its gates to Themed Issues with guest editors, and after seven of those issues are already published, one of them in production, and the September subs on their way to Beverly Army Williams, there are only three themes left open for submissions. October, November, and December offer a wide range of inspiration with Gender Body Horror, In Response, and The Future as the remaining themes, respectively. Guest editors Woody Woodger, Trish Hopkinson, and Nancy Antle each provided some insight into what they might be looking for on the Themed Issue page, so take a look and see if you've got something that could fit the bill (or maybe even write something new!)
