Dialogue Submissions

(currently CLOSED)

Info & Guidelines

To foster the connectivity between different mediums of expression, we have opened submissions for written and visual art in response to instrumental music. Every few months, we will publish a Dialogue Starter Issue: this will be an original, contributor-provided piece of instrumental music. Writers and artists will have until the end of the month following the airdate to submit a brand new poem/story/illustration/etc. inspired by the music. The musical artist will choose his/her/their favorite(s) that we will publish in a future issue, thus furthering the dialogue.  The editors will occasionally choose their favorite(s) to publish as well.
Please follow these guidelines specifically. All submissions should receive an automatic email reply to confirm that your submission made it to the right place. If you do not receive this automatic email, please double-check your submission (especially the subject line) and resubmit as necessary
Music:
  • Submit up to three (3)  instrumental songs in .mp3/.mp4/.wav format (you must own the copyrights for the music)
  • Explicitly provide us permission to use your music for our podcast in your cover letter
  • Send all submissions to goldwalkmagATgmailDOTcom with "DialogueSub" somewhere in the subject line

Writing:
  • Submit only one (1) original poem/story/etc. inspired by the music
  • Write a few sentences explaining your process writing it (how did the music inspire you?) in your cover letter
  • Send all submissions to goldwalkmagATgmailDOTcom with "DialogueSub" somewhere in the subject line

Visual Art (due to the audio nature of our magazine, we will publish any accepted visual art solely on the website and/or as the artwork for the podcast episode):
  • Submit only one (1) original painting/illustration/etc. inspired by the music
  • Write a few sentences explaining your process creating the art (how did the music inspire you?) in your cover letter
  • Send all submissions to goldwalkmagATgmailDOTcom with "DialogueSub" somewhere in the subject line
Golden Walkman seeks and will prioritize work from underrepresented voices. If you belong to a group that is underrepresented, please put "UnderRepDialogueSub" somewhere in your subject line.
