General Submissions

Info & Guidelines

Please follow these guidelines specifically. All submissions should receive an automatic email reply to confirm that your submission made it to the right place. If you do not receive this automatic email, please double-check your submission (especially the subject line) and resubmit as necessary
Poetry: up to three (3) unpublished of any length
Prose: use your best judgment with word count, but we're looking for prose that won't exceed 45 minutes of recorded audio
Music: see Dialogue Submissions

  • All submissions should have the word "GeneralSub" somewhere in the subject line
  • Paste your cover letter into the body of the email
  • Please do NOT send us a bio. We will most likely not read it because we want to spend our time and energy on the good stuff (i.e. your submission). In your cover letter, instead, feel free to drop a note saying, "Hi," or just a cool emoji
  • Attach your submission as a single Word document or PDF
  • Send all submissions to goldwalkmagATgmailDOTcom
  • Please wait at least a week to resubmit after hearing from us
Golden Walkman seeks and will prioritize work from underrepresented voices. If you belong to a group that is underrepresented, please put "UnderRepGeneralSub" somewhere in your subject line.

Fine Print

We do not accept previously published work; we obtain First Digital Rights, with all rights reverting back to the author after publication in GWM. We try to publish an issue every month (depending on the submission ebb and flow) so you usually won’t have to wait long for you to get those precious rights back

Simultaneous submissions are fine as long as you inform us before we inform you. Please just reply to your original submission email with the withdraw notice

If your work is accepted by us (and you still have the rights), we will request an audio recording (.mp3) of it read by you or an enthusiastic imitator. In the event that you are unable to record or uncomfortable recording your work, the duty will fall upon our Surrogate Readers to interpret your work. Live recordings of your work may be acceptable depending on the quality of the audio

Unfortunately, there is no payment upon acceptance at this time (but we're working on it)

You must be the author of the work you are submitting.

We aim to respond to all submissions within 3 months of receiving it, but this is a one-person operation with a day job. Please allow for some wiggle room in that

We look forward to hearing from you!
