J. D. Evans is a writer living in Los Angeles. You can find another of his stories in Santa Monica Review (Spring 2015). He's currently working on his first novel, "Jerusalem/September." When not writing, he worries about the end of human civilization. Not coincidentally, this story was inspired by the poetry of Gottfried Benn.
